The most widely spoken language in Faerûn is Common, a trade dialect that knits the continent together. While most cannot read or write the language, generally, the people of Faerûn will be able to converse with each other in Common. However, dozens of other languages continue to be spoken on Toril.

It is followed by a list of regional languages that can be found in the region, primarily among major human ethnic groups. Lastly, there is a list of exotic languages that scholars might be aware of, but which are rarely spoken by the average denizen of the Realms.
